University of Otago Information

Founded in 1869, University of Otago is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Dunedin (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Otago. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, New Zealand, University of Otago is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Otago offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Applications are invited from international students
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: This support will be provided for the following courses:
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  • Bachelor of Arts and Commerce (BCom)
  • Bachelor of Arts and Science (BASc)
  • Eligibility Criteria: To see whether you are eligible for this programme or not, please check out the requirements:
  • Must be international students
  • Must have completed the final year of secondary school overseas or in New Zealand achieving a University Entrance qualification equivalent to NZQA Level 3, or
  • A recognized overseas pre-matriculation course equivalent to NZQA Level 4; or
  • The University of Otago’s Foundation Year; and
  • Must be intending to enrol for full-time study in one of the following programmes:
  • Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  • Bachelor of Arts and Commerce (BCom)
  • Bachelor of Arts and Science (BASc).

Offered Benefits

This support will grant all successful students with the award of NZ$10,000 to ease up the burden of the tuition fee.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: You will automatically receive this award when you are offered a place on an eligible course. There is no need to send an application for this application separately.
  • Supporting Documents: All recipients of an undergraduate degree programme should provide the following documents at the time of admission: Pre-qualification degree, copies of academic transcripts, certificates of English language proficiency, a statement, and a copy of passport.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must have completed:
  • A final year of secondary school overseas or in New Zealand achieving a university entrance qualification equivalent to NZQA Level 3, or
  • A recognized overseas pre-matriculation course equivalent to NZQA Level 4; or
  • The University of Otago’s Foundation Year.
  • Language Requirement: The university accepts the following tests for bachelor degree programme:
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) with the following scores
  • IELTS Indicator test
  • TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
  • CIE
  • GCE A or AS English Language, Literature in English, Language and Literature in English
  • GCE AS level General Paper
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic
